A huge congratulations to the Armagh Junior hurling champions after a good win against Cumann Chú Chulainn in the Athletic Grounds on Saturday evening.
Seán Treacys could not have asked for a better start with Tiarnán McKavanagh kicking the sliotar to the net after just 40 seconds played. Paddy Kane hit a cúilín (point) from the wing and Tiarnán quickly had the umpire reaching for the bratach bán (white flag) again. Cuchulainns opened their account through a poc saor (free), but 3 further efforts from Reece Magee, Anthony Carville and Tam McKavanagh stamped down the Treacys’ early dominance. The Armagh side got their first from play and Adam Lennon got in on the scoring with another cúilín for the Treacys. On 13 minutes,
Fuair Cumann Uí Threasaigh cúl eile (Treacys got another goal) with a great finish from Anthony Carville to rattle the net. Cuchulainns started to get to grips with the cluiche (game) and hit three consecutive scores to narrow the bearna (gap) to 6. Conor Carabine got a good score to settle Sean Treacys again followed up by two consecutive pocanna saora (frees) from Anthony Carville. Cuchulainns hit over a free before Carabine rounded off the half with two from play to leave the scór leath ama (half time score) 2-11 to 0-7 in favour of the north Armagh men.
Cuchulainns had the better start to the dara tréimhse (second period) with a Shane Morgan point after just 15 seconds. Anthony Carville responded with a pointed free, but Cuchulainns posted two more scores. Carville slotted over another free and a 65, with Reece Magee hitting a good point to leave a farasbarr (surplus) of 10 points with 15 minutes to go. Cuchulainns got a goal off a lovely flick from the full forward to give them a bit of dóchas (hope) but another converted free from Carville stopped them building further momentum. Cuchulainns did manage to score another couple of points, but it was left to Laoch na hImeartha (Player of the match) Anthony Carville to close out the scoring and bring his tally to 1-8. The final scoreline of 2-17 to 1-13 meant the trophy was heading back to tuaisceart Ard Mhacha (north Armagh), this year a bit further north than last.
