Our senior hurlers hosted Craobh Rua last night in Sraith Ard Mhacha (the Armagh league) on an oíche fliuch (wet night) at Tannaghmore Gardens.
Despite Reece Magee hitting an chéad scór (the first score), the visitors showed their intent early on with two quick cúil (goals) in the opening minutes. A couple of pocanna saora (frees) from Anthony Carville and one each from play for Kane Laverty and for Conor Carabine kept Treacys in the game, but the next ten minutes saw Craobh Rua regain smacht (control) with another 1-5. Anthony Carville got one back from a free with the visitors claiming another two efforts before Tam McKavanagh wrapped up the first half scoring to leave the score at leath ama (half time) at 0-7 to 3-8.
The dara leath (second half) began with a Craobh Rua point, but a more determined Treacys’ side produced a good spell of hurling hitting 0-5, two from Carville and cúilín an duine (one point each) for Tam McKavanagh, Ryan Stewart and Cian O’Sullivan. Craobh Rua responded however with 2-2 to end any hopes of a teacht aniar (comeback). Anthony Carville did find the eangach (net) and added two more cúilíní (points), but Craobh Rua pushed for home grabbing another cúl and two cúilíní. With time almost up the sides traded scores with the Sean Treacys efforts coming from Tam McKavanagh and a free for Anthony Carville.
